Prepare your home for winter's worst
As leaves start to fall, it's time to winterize your home's exterior. Fall pressure washing isn't only about looks. It's about protection.
Why fall cleaning matters
- Removes organic matter before it freezes and expands
- Eliminates mold and mildew that thrive in moisture
- Clears debris that traps water against surfaces
- Reduces slip hazards on walkways
1. Gutters and downspouts
Clogged gutters cause ice dams, foundation water damage, fascia and soffit rot, and erosion. Clean them inside and out before the first freeze.
2. Deck and patio
Remove leaves, clean summer mold growth, and apply sealer after cleaning while temperatures are still above 50°F.
3. Driveway and walkways
Remove oil stains before they set, clean and seal concrete to prevent freeze-thaw damage, and eliminate moss and algae that become slip hazards when frozen.
4. House siding
Remove pollen, dirt and organic growth from summer, and inspect window seals and caulking.
Timing
Late September to early November, with temperatures above 40°F, before the first hard freeze and after most leaves have fallen.
